“My work to date has developed from observing and commentating visually on some of society’s absurdities. In this, Ralph Steadman’s scratchy style of mark making has long been an influence. I use quick, gestural, impulsive strokes as an expressive comment on today’s culture as I feel this catches the mood of much of our ‘instant information’ overload and the short attention span it generates.
One of my techniques is to stand my paper at a right angle and without pre-drawing, strike it with an ink filled stick. I never rub out or tidy up images but let it emerge, warts and all. This gives it an immediacy and looseness, which appeals to me and suggests something of society’s current angst”. Rudog.
